Hope connects us to our future.  It can be thought of as feeling optimistic that you can accomplish your goals through you own actions if you work at what you need to do to move yourself closer to them. It is not a false belief that you will succeed at all imagined goals, but rather knowing that you can influence the direction of your life if you are willing to learn, grow and adapt.  It is here that having hope is closely linked with resilience, being able to overcome challenges and work through setbacks.  A successful future in recovery is helped by hopeful thinking, where challenges are faced with a positive mindset.

“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness.”

– Desmond Tutu
